Our Story
Craving for ‘Gula Apong’ ice cream during a pillow talk between Mrs. Siti Fatimah and Mr. Pengiran Muhammad ‘Adil after moving back to Mrs. Siti Fatimah hometown in Kangar, Perlis from Bintulu, Sarawak prompted the couple to venture and start an ice cream business based on ‘Gula Apong’ back in 2019 and now famously known as MOKTI’S.
Mokti's Journey
What Is Gula Apong?
‘Gula Apong’ is a natural sugar extracted from the sap of Nipa Palm Tree later boiled and stirred for 8 hours to allow for the caramelization process to take place and leaving behind a thick liquid form of caramel originated from the island of Borneo, Sarawak. Mokti’s, are trying to introduce and share this combination of unique and exotic taste of ‘Gula Apong’ with ice cream to the world.
The Journey
From a humble beginning through selling ‘Gula Apong’ ice cream from behind a car boot and later grow into operating two Ice Cream factories, managing fourty two (42) staffs, running two (2) outlets owned by Mokti’s HQ and handling fifty-one (51) outlets demands owned by Mokti’s licensees and sub-licensees is not an easy job. Mrs. Siti Fatimah being the right brain and founder of Mokti’s had taken the dive exploring into the ice cream world and successfully discovered the ultimate secret and formulation of making a soft, silky textured and premium taste ‘Gula Apong’ Ice Cream while Mr. Pengiran Muhammad ‘Adil being the left brain and backbone of Mokti’s irons out the logistical and management challenges.
Mokti’s rapid & structured expansion from the beginning and corporate restructure are showing positive & healthy growth. Mokti’s currently are running two (2) ice cream factories with the output capability of producing twelve (12) tons of soft serve ice cream premix, 57,600 popsicle ice creams, 9,600 ice cream tubs monthly. A storage warehouse with a cold storage facility capable of storing twenty-five (25) tons of Ice Cream and two (2) lorries to continuously supply raw materials and ice cream products to our outlets.
Business Model
PMA RICH (M) SDN BHD as the Sub Licensor was given the rights by PMA RICH ENT as the owner of “Mokti’s” trademark to embark and adopt a Licensing Business Model (LBM) to enable interested and passionate ice cream lovers to join the Mokti’s Family and share the love for Gula Apong ice cream throughout the world.
Different from a franchise business model that is governed by the Franchising Act 1998 in Malaysia, our Licensing Business Model (LBM) is only governed by the Licensing Agreement that provides more room for our future sub-licensees to market their own outlet/outlets through localized marketing and decide their own marketing expenditure. Our sub-licensees also do enjoy a much bigger participation in terms of outlet management.
Total 53 Outlets & Growing
As of 15th of June 2021, there are currently Thirty-Three (33) Mokti’s Cafes/Outlets operating and Twenty (20) Cafes/Outlets still pending renovation throughout West Malaysia. We are thankful for all the support, suggestions and help that was shared and also the constancy and conformity showed by all of our Sub-Licensees up till now. We hope Mokti’s will become the platform for Malaysians to embark on the journey to become future successful entrepreneurs.
